TheHM-H2 PFR VONEN hydrogen purification system's metal hydride separates hydrogen from impurities. The hydrogen produced by H2 generation systems may contain various impurities, such as oxygen. TheHM-H2 PFR metal hydride only adsorbs H2, leaving the gas impurities loose. TheHM-H2 PFR VONEN purification system guarantees a 99,9999% purity of the hydrogen produced by your H2 generation system. The Operating Principle of the H2 Purification and Storage System In theHM-H2 PFR VONEN Hydrogen is not stored in the metal hydride in gaseous form, but is adsorbed into the material’s crystal structure. The energy densities that can be achieved using a metal hydride are very large. Another advantage of using metal hydride is the low storage pressure, just 2-4 bar depending on temperature and the amount of hydrogen that the storage unit contains. As storage units do not suffer from self-discharge, hydrogen can be stored for years without any loss of capacity. Since only hydrogen is stored in the metal hydride, the gas drawn from storage units is very pure, approximately 99.9999%. TheHM-H2 PFR VONEN system consists of e.g. three metal hydride deposits (see the image below). The deposits are equipped with a heat exchanger, to allow automatic control of the pressure of the H2. The Deposit
1 is charged with gas (H2 + gaseous impurities). At the moment when
the pressure inside the Storage 1 starts rising, the system starts automatically
charging the Storage 2. Simultaneously, a pressure relief valve of the Storage 1
purges out the gaseous impurities at an elevated pressure. At the moment
when the pressure inside the Storage 2 starts rising, the system starts
automatically charging the Storage 3. At the same time, the system starts the
release of the gaseous impurities out of the Storage 2. The operating principle is presented in
the graph
below.
